The A Team is, I admit, pure escapism with cartoon violence and simple, predictable—nay, formulaic—plots.

But, jeepers... it's fun!

Our four boys—Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith, Captain H.M. Murdock, Lieutenant Templeton "Face" Peck, and Sergeant Bosco "B.A." Baracus—were in Vietnam (yes, the show was on that long ago). Murdock was a chopper pilot; the other three were Special Forces. At the end of the war (ten years before the show's first season) they were framed for robbing the Bank of Hanoi (it's complicated—trust me, they're innocent) and arrested. Then, as the opening narration puts it:

these men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade into the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire The A Team.
It's a morality play, modern-style. Some little guy's in trouble, and our boys come to the rescue. For a fee, of course. Though sometimes they work for very little, or on spec... and often enough they work for nothing. Hey—they're The Good Guys™!

So what do they live on? They've got money coming in from investments, not a lot, but enough. They take a percentage of profits when they save a restauranteur or farmer, as long as the client can afford it. Hannibal makes movies—his best known role is The Aquamaniac, star of a series of cheesy horror films. BA seems to get work as a mechanic with no problems. And Face? He lives off LA... with a hundred personas, each of which has friends just dying to let him housesit for a month or two, he's never short of nice digs.

And oh, yes... Murdock? They say H.M. stands for Howling Mad... and he is. Clinically. They have to break him out of his V.A. psych ward on a regular basis.

Basically, it's our four guys against the world. But when Hannibal schemes and Face cons and BA bolts it together and Murdock adds that extra je ne sais quoi... well, this time the world better look out.

"I love it when a plan comes together."

Warning: My A Team fiction is slash, depicting loving homosexual relationships. If you don't like that, please just don't read it.

rule

I've been accused of putting the "wrong" people together and "making us love it". Sometimes, knowing too much can spoil the story, but I realize that many people want to know the pairings and such. So, if you want detailed warnings, spoilers, pairings, etc, the Fic Warnings Page has it all.
